Gordon Haines True was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin on December 14, 1868. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1894, he served at the Michigan Agricultural College, the University of Arizona, and the University of Nevada before accepting a position at the University Farm (now the University of California, Davis) as Professor of Animal Husbandry in 1913.
